Holidays sometimes allow us step back and look at things from a broader perspective: infrastructure challenges in Brazil are no exception. The FT references and estimated 1.7M calls on the road in the city of Sao Paulo alone (one equivalent to every resident of Manhattan) and a long traffic jam of of over 77 kilometers!
Traffic in emerging markets is not new, but the scale of growth and the pressure of Brazil’s hosting of world events in 2014 (World Cup) and 2016 (Olympics) puts added pressure on the country to not only keep up with, but to outpace infrastructure development in order to practically welcome the world in coming years, let alone to satisfy domestic demand.
