Majority of New Car Sales now come from Emerging Markets

According to a recent report from JD Power & Associates, emerging markets accounted for 51 percent of global light vehicle sales in 2010, with estimates of vehicles in this category to continue steady expansion to nearly 60 percent by 2015.  Brazil, Russia, China and India are expected to sell a combined 55.7 million units and account for 46 percent of global sales in 2020, with an estimated 29 million units alone expected to come from China by 2015.

This trend and shift in automobile growth in the emerging markets is in line with BMW’s earnings report on May 4th that  the German carmaker saw a 70 percent increase in China sales, and expects continued growth in Brazil, India and Turkey, in addition to China.

The trend and this recent report both add to the data seen last week from Renault, and of course the increased traffic we’ve seen on the roads in countries like Brazil.
